StarView and the Ecological Environment Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences' "Bio-observation Robot Dog" at the 21st Public Science Day].

On May 17th, the 21st Public Science Day of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Science and Technology Exploration Activity of Community Youth Exchange (CYE) kicked off in Miyun-Huairou Science City in Beijing with warm sunshine like a picture. As a cooperative unit of the Ecological Environment Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, StarView assisted the Ecology Center to display the "Biological Observation Robot Dog" jointly developed by the two parties in this event. The device was unveiled on the scene of the event, and attracted wide attention and praise on the stage of science and innovation with its intelligent design and ecological monitoring function.

I. Intelligent "Pathfinder": Biological Observation Robot Dogs on the Scene

In the "scientific and technological achievements" exhibition area, wearing a gray and white shell of the robot dog quietly standby. It is dexterous, agile, in accordance with the preset points to automatically execute the command program. Through the integration of multi-spectral camera, LiDAR and large model recognition algorithm, this "robot dog" can collect key data of wetlands, forests and other ecosystems in real time, including vegetation cover, leaf area index, NDVI (Normalized Vegetation Index), etc., which can provide researchers with highly efficient and accurate field monitoring solutions.

Second, live demonstration: the charm of science and technology directly

At 10 a.m., the technical team was in front of the booth for a field demonstration.

  • Dynamic inspection: Autonomously planning the path and avoiding obstacles to move forward, demonstrating excellent environmental awareness.
  • Multispectral Imaging and Radar Demonstration: During the demonstration, the multi-spectral weather camera carried by the robot dog was turned on at the same time as the LiDAR to calculate the vegetation index and build a 3D radar point cloud map in real time.
  • Audience Questions and AnswersStarView's technical team and teachers from the Ecological Environment Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences taught children and parents about the principles and uses of the "Bio-observation Robot Dogs", and many of the audience exclaimed, "So that's what it's all about!"

In the interactive session, children have come forward to try the handheld remote control to experience the fun of science and technology at close range, and many children curiously followed its pace, marveling at the magic of science and technology.

III. Science popularization and innovation in parallel: igniting young people's scientific dreams

The Science and Technology Exploration Activity attracted nearly 10,000 public participants. It not only displayed advanced technology, but also enabled participants to understand the significance and methods of ecological environment monitoring through on-site explanations, Q&A interactions, interactive experiences and other forms. A number of representatives of secondary school students said after the experience, "I didn't expect the 'robot dog' could also do ecological surveys!" There were also many parents who said it was the first time they knew that LAI and NDVI stood for so many meanings. As the teacher said, "As long as there is one child whose heart is illuminated by the light of science and the fire of exploration is ignited, this event is meaningful."

IV. Looking ahead: working together for a beautiful home

The biological observation robot dog is only the beginning of the cooperation between StarView and the Ecological Environment Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In the future, the two sides will continue to optimize the mobility and intelligence level, expand the application in the field of wetland protection, pollution monitoring, disaster early warning and other areas, to help the construction of national ecological civilization.

Special thanks
Thanks to the organizers of the Chinese Academy of Sciences for their careful organization, to the exhibitors and volunteers for their selfless efforts, and to every visitor for their enthusiastic participation. Let's use the light of science and technology to illuminate the green future of beautiful China!
